WHAT IS TELEHEALTH PMTO FAMILY THERAPY?
PMTO stands for Parent Management Training-Oregon Model. This Family Therapy model is designed for parents with children ages 2-17. Parent Management Training-Oregon Model. (PMTO) is an evidenced based behavior intervention program designed by Dr. Gerald Patterson and colleagues at the world-renowned Oregon Social Learning Center (OSLC). Based on more than 50 years of research, PMTO promotes parenting and social skills and prevents, reduces and reverses the development of moderate to severe conduct problems in children and youth. This model is focused on weekly sessions with home-related weekly assignments for families. At Barnett Counseling Services this specialized family therapy model is taught exclusively online with client families weekly in the comfort of your own home, designed around your busy schedule to best support your unique family needs.
PMTO five core parenting skills taught in the session:
- Encouragement: Teaching children new behavior utilizing labeled praise, consistent strength-based reinforcement, strength-based language and creative family incentives.
- Limit Setting: Responding to problem behavior with clear nonphysical consequences honoring CL family values and cultural expectations.
- Monitoring & Supervision: Checking on children’s behavior at home and away from home.
- Family Problem Solving: Learning an organized method of making decisions with family input, modeling family connections and trust-building skills.
- Positive Parent Involvement: Parents demonstrate interest, caring, attachment and learn how to really connect with their children on a deeper level.
